Sustainable food sources are a priority at the University of Guelph, which is staking a claim globally on sustainability savvy with programs such as Food From Thought and the Barcode of Life. That imperative got a boost when the university’s own Alma Aquaculture Research Station gained top-level seafood sustainability certification from a program called Ocean Wise. Getting the nod from the program ensures production at the facility is consistent with sustainable standards. Some of the research station’s Arctic char are raised in a separate production stream for human consumption, and sold to help support research at the facility.
