Canadian Thanksgiving arrives Monday, a holiday which is distinguished by great food and a day off for many newspapers, including the Guelph Mercury. My Urban Cowboy column normally appears in the paper Monday; instead, it’s on the website today.

I’m writing about a seminar I attended at the University of Guelph earlier this week at which the head of the World Vegetable Center , Dr. J.D.H. (Dyno) Keatinge, talked about the need for governments to invest in nutrition. One way of doing so is to support vegetable research, he said. He also advocated for the need to get doctors and farmers to talk — doctors say people need more fruit and vegetables; farmers are always looking for markets. Isn’t that a natural fit?

The photo below is Dr. Keatinge.
