Maintaining healthy vineyards requires a lot of time pacing the rows, scouting for insects and diseases. But that might change, thanks to a recent Canadian innovation called SkySquirrel. It’s described as ‘Google Earth for vineyards’, mapping and scouting vineyards using time-saving drones. The SkySquirrel company analyzes the information received via the drones, and reports back to the grower. In fact, the technology is so precise, it can pick up on the earliest stages of plant disease, reducing the need for pesticides and likely preventing further disease spread before it reaches the other plants in the vineyard.
