About my blog

This blog is designed to stimulate comments and dialogue on current agricultural communications issues. Here, you’ll find a collection of agricultural communications news, as well as links to my weekly columns published Mondays in the Guelph Mercury, under the column name “Urban Cowboy” (i.e. a person in the city who writes about the country) and Saturdays in the Woolwich Observer (in Elmira), where the column appears as Food For Thought.

Your comments are welcome. On the home page of this blog, you’ll see links to initiatives I’m involved in or support, and I welcome you to visit those websites too.

  1. Dear Owen,
I enjoyed reading your post on the Ontario wine business. I’ve been tracking the Canadian wine business as much as possible and am interested in knowing if there are any California based importers that are bringing in wines from Canada. I am a scout for such wines for a company called http://www.wholeworldwines.com and its sister company http://www.importedwinesdirect.com. This company allows foreign wineries to sell direct-to-consumer out of their importers’ landed stocks. I fear that very few people in the US even know that Canada produces wine, but if you do know of any of the wineries that export to the US, please feel free to give them my name and I’ll be happy to answer any questions. There is no charge to use the internet platform, and the winery need only place a link to their US shopping cart on their main website. The rub is that wines must be in California, for Whole World Wines to purchase and ship to US consumers (where legal).
My husband and I have a wine marketing and sales company that specializes in imports, alternative packaging designs and sales strategy work so we love learning about new ventures, and emerging wine regions.
Thank you for an interesting article. Sincerely, Jennifer

Thanks Jennifer. I suggest you try Angelo Pavan at Cave Springs winery.
