The Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow comprises students at agricultural universities in the U.S. and Canada with a particular interest in promoting the agri-food sector.  I’m proud to serve as the faculty advisor for the University of Guelph chapter (CanACT), the only chapter in Canada, started in 2003 by Kim Waalderbos, Jenn (Dick) Doelman and me. The current president is Amanda Brodhagen, an amazing student leader with boundless energy and enthusiasm.

Chapters undertake various initiatives; this one at the University of Arkansas caught my eye. There, the ACT group and the school’s Block and Bridle club have teamed up counter the Meatless Monday campaign with what they call “Meat on Monday.” It’s a campus-wide program designed to focus on beef’s importance in a healthy diet.

The students designed a logo and labels for packets of beef jerky distributed on campus as part of the campaign, and orchestrated all media relations. Wow!

Read about it here, in the ACT newsletter.
