As Canadians look back on what defined our food culture for the past decade and what shapes the next one, two milestones come to mind: our lone BSE cow, back in 2003, and more lately the impact of the Governor General’s appetite for seal heart.  In 2010, the menu being developed by Elora’s Anita Stewart for a major media event just before the Winter Olympic Games will help put Canadian food on the map. I write about it in my Urban Cowboy column in the Guelph Mercury.

The photo below of Governor General Michaelle Jean tasting raw seal heart appeared widely in the daily media.  The photo was taken by Sean Kilpatrick for The Canadian Press.
