The World’s Longest Barbecue takes place this weekend, and founder Anita Stewart is more determined than ever to try to get August 1 dubbed a national food holiday in Canada. It’s already a holiday here, (Civic Holiday) recognized for different reasons in different provinces, and she thinks food is something everyone across Canada could rally around. I think it’s an intriguing idea, and I write about it this week’s Urban Cowboy.

The photo below is of Anita speaking at a farmers’ market event earlier this summer in Queen’s Park, Toronto. She was splendid as the guest host at last night’s 100-kilometre food dinner at Guelph’s Borealis local food restaurant. Congratulations to restaurant owner Bob Desautels, Court Desautels chef Jim Loat and the fantastic staff for an excellent event, and for continuing to put Guelph on the culinary map.
